1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Ummah mobile application (“App”). By using the App, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account and profile information
When you create an account or sign in, we may collect:
- Email address (when you sign up with email/password or use Google Sign-In)
- Name (first and last name, and/or display name)
- Username (if you choose or we generate one)
- Profile photo (if you upload an avatar)
- Bio (if you add one to your profile)
Sign-in may be provided through Sign in with Apple, Google Sign-In, or email and password. When you use Apple or Google, we receive only the information they share (e.g. name, email) according to their policies and your choices.
2.2 Location data
The App uses your device location (when you allow it) to:
- Show nearby masjids and halal businesses
- Improve search and map features
Location is used only when the App is in use (or in the background if you grant “Always” access). You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings.
2.3 User-generated content
We store content you create in the App, including:
- Posts, reviews, and comments
- Place submissions and edits
- Favorites, collections, and notes on saved places
- Reports you submit about content or places
2.4 Push notifications
If you enable notifications, we store a push token (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can send you alerts (e.g. place submission approvals and important updates). You can turn notifications off in the App or in device settings.
2.5 Usage and analytics
We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the App is used (e.g. feature usage, crashes). We also record aggregate place view counts (e.g. how often a place is viewed) to improve the service. This data is not used to identify you personally for advertising.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and profile
- Provide the App’s features (map, places, reviews, social features, business features)
- Send push notifications you have agreed to
- Improve the App, fix issues, and understand usage
- Enforce our terms, handle reports, and protect safety and security
- Comply with law and legal process
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
4. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services that may process your data:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Storage, Analytics, Cloud Messaging) – Google Privacy Policy

- Sign in with Apple – Apple Privacy Policy
Data sent to these providers is governed by their respective privacy policies. We encourage you to read them.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored and processed using Firebase (Google Cloud). We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Retention
We keep your account and profile data while your account is active. User-generated content (e.g. reviews, posts) may be retained after account deletion where required for safety, legal, or operational reasons (e.g. fraud, disputes). You may request deletion of your account and data as described below.
7. Your Rights and Choices
You may:
- Access and update your profile and account information in the App
- Disable push notifications in the App or in your device settings
- Revoke location access in your device settings
- Delete your account (via in-app settings or by contacting us), subject to retention needs above
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, or other regions with similar laws, you may have additional rights (e.g. access, correction, deletion, portability, objection, restriction). To exercise them, contact us at privacy@ummahconnectapp.com.
8. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
9. International Transfer
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, where our service providers operate. We take steps to ensure your data is protected in line with this policy and applicable law.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy at https://ummahconnectapp.com/privacy and, where required, notify you in the App or by email. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
